WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Aug. 10, 2016) – Crews are continuing to work along Russell Street, between State Street and Stadium Avenue, in order to prepare the street for its conversion from one-way to two-way traffic as part of the State Street Redevelopment Project. In conjunction with this work, Purdue University will also be converting the portion of Steven C. Beering Drive between Stadium Avenue and Tower Drive from one-way to two-way traffic.
Due to the large volume of construction in the area, this section of Russell Street is currently closed to vehicular and pedestrian through traffic. When the road reopens on Aug. 11, all of Russell Street and the previously stated portion of Beering Drive will be two-way traffic. This work will not impact any parking along Beering Drive or the portion of Beering Drive located north of Tower Drive, which will remain one way.
The work being done is weather dependent, and if inclement weather occurs, the conversion schedule may shift accordingly.
While work is underway, motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution in the area, allow extra time for commutes and find alternate routes and parking. When the road reopens on Aug. 11, motorists and pedestrians should continue exercising extreme caution as everyone adjusts to the new traffic patterns.
The State Street Redevelopment Project is a collaborative effort between the City of West Lafayette and Purdue University to improve quality of life by transforming State Street into a more desirable destination for the local community and visitors.
